PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE – September 2017 Elaine P.
I hope all had a wonderful summer. I hope there were many visits with friends and family and chances to visit new places and old favorites.
Here in McMinnville, there was one sunny day after another. I cannot remember the last time it rained. We even had a solar eclipse! We were so lucky to live in the path of totality. It was an awe inspiring, very special experience.
There were a few very warm days, notably, during our Garden Tour and Faire. We cannot thank enough all of the volunteers who kept smiling and helping on a very hot and uncomfortable day. Although, because of the weather fewer people attended than last year, those that did enjoyed the Tour and Faire very much. We want to thank the owners who graciously shared their gardens. We also want to thank all our members who worked so hard beforehand to once again make the Tour and Faire successful.
Now it is time to begin a new Garden Club year. We will begin meeting at the Falls Event Center at Evergreen. Our first meeting is September 18th from 9:30 to noon. Afterwards, all who wish can join the executive board when we attach our Love Lock. Then we can go out to lunch!
Enjoy the rest of your summer. I look forward to seeing you in September.
As you can see by the lack of content in this newsletter, we need some members willing to write short articles, share photos, etc. Check with Betty or Patty if you can help. PLEASE?
Dues Are Overdue $$$$$$$
We have over 50 members who have not paid their dues. Every year we try to get the directory printed in time for delivery in October. We never seem to be able to get that done since so many folks are late with their payments. Let’s meet that goal this year. Please either MAIL your $25 to Donna Parr, 2824 NW Pinot Noir Dr., McMinnville, OR 97128 ASAP or bring it to the meeting on the 18th.
Barn Quilts: Cancelled in August due to HEAT. NEW DATES: September 21 or 22. Please sign up for the date that works for you at the meeting this month. We will start at 9:30 at Patty Sorensen’s.
We are doing 24” X 24” painted “Barn Quilts”. Patterns will be provided. Cost: $5.
This craft is open to everyone not just those who signed up for the August workshop which was cancelled due to heat. Please check with Patty at the meeting to get a board which needs to be pre-painted with a base color prior to the workshops.
On Sept. 21st or 22nd please bring any outdoor or chalk paint you have to share (I’ve read you can use acrylic paints as long as you seal them well with polyurethane), a yardstick, pencil, one fine tip and one 1”paint brush, empty margarine tubs, etc. to take home paints if you don’t have time to finish there, lunch or snacks, and wear shirts you can ruin. Also required: SMILES!!!
