This month’s speaker: by Jan Clay

Our May speaker will be Sandy Rokoff-Lizut. She will be guiding us in writing about our love of gardens.  Sandy has taught many classes about poetry writing and other writing styles including our own senior center in McMinnville.  I am a very reluctant writer however four years ago we had a speaker at one of our meetings  guiding us in writing a short story about a deep feeling we have – with her guidance I was amazed at how easy and fun it was to express myself in writing.  With spring finally here – flowers blooming and expectations of a bountiful gardens this should be a fun relaxing time.

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE  – May 2018 Elaine P.

The McMinnville Garden Club is growing. We now have 93 members and others have expressed interest. Our revised website, has been pivotal in getting out the word on what a lovely, fun, hard working group we are. Thank you Patty, Lori and Tony.

The McMinnville Garden Club is doing. The District Luncheon was a success. A lot of work went into the planning of this event and the glitches were barely noticeable. The weather was beautiful. Michelbook did a good job. The decorations were fabulous. Thank you to Patty and team. You did us proud. I also want to thank the people who sorted and set up the photos for the contest.

Just days after the Luncheon, Ladies and Gents on Third sprang into action. 18 of our members weeded, trimmed and mulched our way up and down Third and the side streets. We do this every year and our efforts are appreciated.

One more task lies before us: the 18th Annual Garden Tour and Faire. Thanks to the leadership of Marlene and Mike and the dedication of their many helpers, the plans are ready. We need everyone to pitch in and help. Positions are still available at the gardens and the Faire. Not only do the proceeds fund the scholarships and our city beautification projects but they also cover many of our operating expenses.

These tasks are enjoyable and rewarding because they are shared with the wonderful men and women of the McMinnville Garden Club.

PHOTO CONTEST WINNER!!!

A big congratulations to Patty Sorensen, her frog photograph won first place for district and will go on to the state level contest!!
